Apple Plans to Obscure MacBook Pro Notch With Wallpaper in Marketing Images

Last-minute rumors suggest that the MacBook Pro will have a notch at its top for the ambient light sensor and 1080p webcam. However, information about the notch was leaked by a Chinese leaker months ago. This may have been the source of many other rumors about the forthcoming 14-inch and 16 inch MacBook Pro models.

"ty98" shared a thread in August that stated that both MacBook Pro models would have a notch. "ty98" continued to give details about the machines including mentions of the 1080p webcams as well as the absence of Face ID. This is something we've heard before from leakers.

According to the leaker, he claims to have direct knowledge of the new machines. He also claimed that he had seen both the MacBook Pro's case and its packaging. Apple plans to hide the design of the notch on its marketing materials for the new device.

He wrote, "Today I saw the packaging shell." It was wallpaper with a dark top, sure enough. You can't see [the notch] if you don't pay attention."

Although we don't know much about the leaker, he shared details of the MacBook Pro's notch months ago. It seems like this information is correct. There has been increasing evidence since the leak of the notch, including Apple's display resolutions which we detailed in our original article.

Apple also published patents regarding notch implementations in MacBook Pros. Yesterday, a photo showing a MacBook Pro with a notch was released. Recent information has revealed that photos of a MacBook Pro equipped with a notch were also part of the REvil leak in April. This further supports the idea that Apple may have settled on a notched design.

We thought it would be a good idea to share all the information Ty98 shared in his August forum post as well as the comments.

There is no Face ID. The notch houses a 1080p webcam and an ambient light sensor.

A mini-LED display will be available.

The MacBook Pro is "very thick thick and heavy."

Its biggest selling point will be the maximum configuration of 32+4T.

Two large Apple fans will be added to the new chip by Apple.

"Don't be too optimistic about narrow borders. It is narrow, but not too narrow.

Touch Bar has been removed

MacBook Pro models will include MagSafe, HDMI Port and SD Card slot.

There is no "MacBook Pro” logo at the bottom bezel.

The bezel width is the same as it is now, but the bezels on the three sides are roughly the same width. However, the bottom bezel is thicker.

To give users an intuitive feeling that the MacBook Pro is a large rectangular shape, it has "various curves."

Ty98's statements may not make sense. This is especially true for the thicker bezels. A notch design and the leaked schematics seem to indicate that very thin bezels are possible. The leaker shared today a glimpse at the "M1X” chip variants that he claims are representative of the Apple silicon processors set to be used on the new MacBook Pro models.

It is worth noting that this forum post was from August, and the leaked schematics were from April. There is a possibility that Apple has changed its design direction and doesn't plan to release MacBook Pro models with a notch. However, overwhelming evidence suggests that it was considered.

We won't be waiting too long to see if the notched design is real. Apple's event tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time will give us all the details about the new machines.
