Newcastle-Tottenham game halted because of medical emergency in crowd

Because of a medical emergency, Newcastle United's Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur was stopped in the 40th minute.

Referees told both teams to leave the pitch. Spurs led 2-1, while medics attended the supporter.

Before play was suspended, fans in the East Stand at Saint James' Park alerted officials and players.

Newcastle said that the supporter had been stabilized and was being taken to hospital.

Tottenham was about to turn the corner, when Spurs' Sergio Reguilon alerted referee that a section supporters needed assistance.

Both teams' players signalled that they needed medical personnel. Eric Dier, Tottenham defender, called for a defibrillator before both sides left the pitch. A fan was then assisted.

After a delay of over 20 minutes, the remainder of the half was played. The five remaining minutes normal time plus two additional time were used. Tottenham scored a third goal through Son Heungmin.
