Everton 0-1 West Ham: Angelo Ogbonna heads winner

Last update on. From the section Premier League
Angelo Ogbonna scored the West Ham's first goal of this season

Angelo Ogbonna, West Ham United's player of the match, won the second-half to give David Moyes' team a hard-fought Premier League win at Everton.

In a game with few clear chances, Ogbonna, the defender, scored the only goal in the final 74 minutes. He climbed inside the box from six yards to score Jarrod Bowen's corner.

Although the Hammers won the first half, they were unable to be decisive in the third. Jordan Pickford was called into action once more.

Bowen's stinging shot was missed by the England goalkeeper. Tomas Soucek believed he had made the breakthrough with his follow up from close range. However, it was ruled out as offside.

Everton missed a golden opportunity when Alex Iwobi failed to make contact from six yards away. Then in the second half, the Nigeria forward's spin was stopped and his strike was blocked by the blocker.

As Rafael Benitez at Goodison Park won the league, the Toffees couldn't find an equaliser and their winning streak in the league ended.

As they leapfrog Everton who drops to seventh, West Ham's win lifts them up to sixth place in the table.

Moyes wins over Benitez!

During the 2000s, Benitez was with Liverpool while Moyes was at Everton.

Moyes' win Sunday will be sweet after his 11-year tenure as manager of the club. This is especially true considering that Benitez was able to beat him on many occasions.

This was Benitez's first league loss of the campaign.

Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray were excellent summer signings. Everton's attacking play was dominated by the English duo on the flanks.

The hosts were unable to test Lukasz Fabianski as keeper, despite Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin being injured.

Salomon Rondon, the stand-in striker, is still struggling to score and was almost caught off guard when Townsend's dangerous delivery went wide.

West Ham won the three points. Ogbonna, who was able to escape Ben Godfrey's grasp of Ben Godfrey, deflected Bowen's brilliant corner past Pickford and gave West Ham the win. This is West Ham's second win in six.

Everton players challenged the awarding corner from which the goal was scored. Michail Antonio attempted to challenge Pickford for a high ball, but replays showed that Pickford's last touch was from the goalkeeper.

It was also a welcome result, as they had only three shut-outs in their last 19 top-flight matches. Former Everton loanee Kurt Zouma played his part by blocking Gray's shot late.

Although the visitors had the chance to score a second goal at the end, Bowen's curling effort was brilliantly overthrown by Pickford.

Moyes' team will be back in action against Genk on Thursday in Europa League. They know that a third win in the group will propel them into the knockout stages.
