'Horses***': CNN contributor slams network's 'dishonest' ivermectin coverage

After CNN's "dishonest” coverage of Joe Rogan's use ivermectin in combating COVID-19, a CNN contributor is asking her network to curb it.
Mary Katherine Ham, a CNN contributor and author, criticized the network's discussion of Rogan's anti-parasite medication use. She claimed that the network chose to "dunk” on Rogan instead of providing accurate coverage.

Ham tweeted Friday, "Rogan is correct that it's dishonest to claim he took horse wormer when he didn't," "It was irresistible for many people to dunk him so they went with that rather than sticking to 'hey! This anti-parasitic wasn't recommended for COVID therapy' which would have been credible."

John Daniel Davidson, Federalist's President, pointed out that Rogan's medication had been recommended by a physician and that other doctors are recommending it. Ham agreed.

"Agreed. I'm not trying to explain the whole Ivermectin fight with one tweet. This was shorthand for a declaration that would have been more appropriate than "he's taking horse dewormer," which is just plain ***," she said. I'm happy for people to take it safely and half expect.

Ivermectin has been widely prescribed for humans as an antiparasitic treatment. However, it is not approved to treat COVID-19 and is discouraged by the Food and Drug Administration.

Rogan asked Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent, if he was bothered by the network's dismissal of ivermectin for being a "horse-dewormer." Gupta responded, "They shouldn’t have said that."

Rogan asked Gupta why you would say that, when you're talking about a drug that's been distributed to billions upon billions of people. The drug was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2015 by Gupta and its inventors. It has been proven to prevent viral replication in vitro. That's right. They would lie and claim that horse dewormer is what they use. [...] Do they think it's a problem because your news network lies?"

Gupta replied that there were others who took the veterinary medication. It was prescribed by a doctor so it should not be called "veterinary medication". Ivermectin is a powerful medication that can treat parasitic diseases.

Gupta supported CNN anchor Don Lemon’s description of ivermectin Wednesday night, despite the backlash on social networks.

Lemon stated that Lemon did not agree with Lemon's comments about ivermectin. Ivermectin is a common horse dewormer. It is true that the drug can be used to deworm horses. It's not approved for COVID.

"That is correct. You're correct. It has not been approved for COVID. The FDA issued a statement that said, "You are not a horse." You are not a cow. "Stop taking this stuff" is what they meant, referring to Ivermectin," Gupta stated.

Gupta admitted that ivermectin was "very effective" for treating river blindness. However, "just because it works well for one thing doesn't mean it will work for another."

Gupta stated that there are still some clinical trials on ivermectin. However, the majority of the data shows that it doesn't really work here. He also said that Rogan's concurrent use of monoclonal antibody rather than ivermectin was what helped him to recover.
