Dwayne John Johnson is the star of the Shazam-adjacent movie. This promise dates back to at least 2007, when io9 first reported on his possible involvement in this project. Johnson was a film star in 2007, but not the global superstar that he was when he said he would be playing Black Adamor 2021. This was when Black Adam began filming. Johnson's excitement about sharing bits of the production with the rest of the world is a testament to the fact that he has waited a long time for the role.
Black Adam was filmed in April. Johnsons wanted to make a big splash and get some footage. We don't know much about the plot but we can expect lots of action and, inevitably, humor from the Rock. Johnsons enthusiasm for the project seems to make it unlikely that we will see a traditional villainous version of the main character. It doesn't hurt that the rest the cast are quite outstanding and that their characters are all quite intriguing: Aldis Hedge (Invisible Man), as Hawkman; Pierce Brosnan, as Dr. Fate, Noah Centineo is Atom Smasher; Sarah Shahi is Isis; Quintessa Swindell plays Cyclone. As previously reported, Black Adam will be released on July 29, 2022.
