Michael Caine says he's retiring from acting

Michael Caine is retiring from acting, citing the difficult-to-argue-against fact that he is, in fact, an 88- year- old man , and has probably acted in enough things, damn it. This interview was given by Sir Michael to the BBC. He discusses his film Best Selleralso, not coincidentally, about an older gentleman who wants to be left alone and not constantly being asked to do things.

Caines' character is a retired author who is seduced by Aubrey Plaza to go on a book tour. Caine points out that the character's attitude is based on a real situation. He has a spine problem that makes it difficult to walk.

It's not like Hollywood has been knocking on his door lately, for all that Christopher Nolan may have a role in Oppenheimer. He notes that there aren't many scripts for a leading man aged 88. He also points out that he has worked very little (by Michael Caine standards, leastways) in recent times. He also appeared in Twist, an Oliver Twist film adaptation opposite Lena Headey, earlier this year.

Caine isn't actually retiring. He just has stopped acting. Caine feels that he has written several books with moderate success, including three memoirs in 1992, 2010 and 2018. He also noted that his 150+ TV and film credits have helped him to make ends meet. He also notes that being a writer is a wonderful profession because you can get started writing from your bed at night, rather than having to go to the movie studio at 6:30 am.

Caine did not comment on whether he would still be able to act if he had not spent 8 years of life devoted to his work.
