Marcus Rashford: Manchester United forward 'needs to prioritise football' says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Last update on. From the section Man Utd
Rashford was substituted in five England Euro 2020 appearances.

Marcus Rashford must "prioritise" his football if he wants to face the dual challenges of playing for country and club, suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United manager.

For his work with children in food poverty, the forward aged 23 has been praised greatly.

Solskjaer stated that Solskjaer is at the peak of his career as a footballer. He has a challenge here at Manchester United and will be playing for England.

In 2020, Rashford was made an MBE and received an honorary doctorate by the University of Manchester.

Solskjaer however, says that the forward must remain focused on his day-job.

However, the manager does not believe Rashford's activities off-the-field have had an impact on his performance on the field.

As Rashford is preparing to return from the shoulder surgery he had after Euro 2020, Solskjaer said that Marcus has done "some remarkable and fantastic things."

"But now, he might need to prioritise football."

Rashford is already on the verge of 300 United appearances and 46 England caps.

He tried to ignore his shoulder problem, but he gave a sub-par performance in Villarreal's Europa League final loss in May. Rashford also made only substitute appearances at Euro 2020 England.

Solskjaer may not be overly concerned.

He said, "Marcus is aware that we expect a lot of him, but we will give him the time to return to what he used to be and what he can become."

Solskjaer dismissed Sir Alex Ferguson’s criticisms of his decision to exclude Cristiano Ronaldo from the home draw with Everton, 2 October.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC legend, said Ferguson that managers should always play the strongest team in a video posted to social media.

Solskjaer said, "I'm quite relaxed regarding it." It's unfair on the gaffer that such a thing is broadcast. You have opinions, and you can speak with people in confidence.

"I told my wife quite often that I disagreed with him, but that didn't make headlines as a player.

"I know Sir Alex doesn't mind me. Because Cristiano is unique, we all want to see him.

"But the simple fact is that he can't play every game. It's both his physical and human nature.
