Decorated NYPD officer charged with murder after fatally shooting ex-GF’s new lover

New York Police Department (NYPD), officer who was caught up in a deadly triangle of love has been charged with murder. She allegedly killed her ex-girlfriend's new lover Wednesday.


What happened? Yvonne Wu (31), who works at Sunset Park's 72nd Precinct, allegedly broke into Jenny Li's Bensonhurst house before shooting Jamie Liang and her new boyfriend, Jamie Liang. Wu and Li were reportedly together for two years before they split up three weeks ago.



Li, aged 23, was reportedly brought home by Liang, 24 at 5 p.m. Wu who was not on duty at the time, allegedly broke in to the residence at 19th Avenue & 79th Street via an unlocked backdoor.

Wu was armed with a NYPD-issued Glock 19 and fired multiple shots that allegedly killed Liang. After being hit in the arteries with a bullet, Li was able to escape death.

Li managed to dial 911 despite the chaos. According to the responding officer, they heard someone shouting in the background, "That's what you get."

Wu, calm and collected, was taken into custody on the spot. According to a New York Daily News source, she said that she had shot both of them. They had the guns inside. I can be taken in.

Wu, a five-year-old decorated veteran of the force was charged Thursday night with attempted murder and murder. The shooting left nearby residents on edge.



Wu told officers after her arrest that she wanted to commit suicide. She was still at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn on Thursday for further evaluation.

Staten Island resident, who was a member the NYPD Explorers program, began her career. According to the New York Post, sources claim she was awarded four medals and received good evaluations every time.

On Friday, the New York Attorney Generals Office of Special Investigations (OSI), announced that it was investigating the matter. The New York State Executive Law Section70-b requires that OSI evaluates all incidents in which a police officer or peace officer, including corrections officers, has caused the death or injury of any person. This was stated by the office in a press release.

According to an NYPD officer, Wu was suspended from service without pay. As of writing, it is unclear if Wu has an attorney.







Friends of the victims say that Wu was involved in an altercation at least once with the couple before the incident. They believe that the bloodshed could've been prevented if the matter had been reported earlier.

It should have been stopped. A friend of Liangs said that the cop had been following them for some time. Jenny didn't want the police involved. She was determined to manage it herself. She believed she could manage it.

As of writing, a GoFundMe page to help Liang's funeral arrangements has raised more than $33,000. Elaine Zhao, an organizer, described Liang as a friend and a dear friend who filled every space with her kindnesses and beautiful spirit.
