One of the top GOP committees devoted to electing Republicans to Congress is adopting an antagonistic approach to recent fundraising efforts.
The National Republican Congressional Committee sent a message to supporters this month, threatening them with a threat and calling them a "traitor", according to The Washington Post.
The message read, "You abandoned Trump." "We were told that you were a tested & true, long-standing patriot."
"But when Trump stated he would run for president if we took the House back from Nancy Pelosi... You did nothing. Did Trump have something to do with you? The statement was questioned.
The message offered recipients the "final chance" of proving their loyalty or they would be "branded deserters." According to the statement, donors were given only 17 minutes to respond.
The Post reports that Trump advisers were angry at the email's framing, calling it offensive and worrying about alienating supporters. Trump keeps hinting at a 2024 presidential race.
One anonymous advisor said that the tone of the message was inappropriate.
Insider reached out to Trump Organization for clarification, but they did not immediately respond.
Even though he was removed from office, the former president still has sway over Republican party. GOP strategists are eager to regain Washington control and use Trump's power and name recognition to target Trump's dedicated base in the hopes of generating enough Republican voter turnout to allow them to return Congress to the GOP by 2022.
This message comes as Trump threatens GOP lawmakers with a public threat. He tells them to support his ongoing lies about unfounded electoral fraud or they will be refused voting in 2022 and 2024. Trump sent a threat to Save America via a statement posted on Thursday by his political action committee.
"If we don’t solve the Presidential Election Fraud 2020 (which has been thoroughly and conclusively documented), Republicans won’t be voting in '22/'24. This is the most important thing that Republicans can do," the statement stated.
Official audits and election experts concluded that there was no widespread fraud in 2020's election. The Department of Homeland Security also declared it the "most secure in American History."
Insider was told by an election expert that Trump's ultimatum is "mostly power play" and that Trump, along with several senior Republican leaders, believes that the party can retake Congress in 2022.
