Woman Wakes in Terror When Meteorite Crashes Through Her Ceiling

"You are sound asleep and safe in your bed. A meteorite can take you out, apparently."
Meteorite Hit

Ruth Hamilton, a native of Golden, British Columbia, was woken by her dog barking. A few seconds later, she said, a rock about two pounds smashed through her roof and landed inches away from where she was asleep.

It was not a dangerous prank, as it turned out. Global News, a Canadian broadcaster, reports that the rock was actually a chunk meteorite. It had already lit up the night sky that night.

Close call

A team of experts from Western University, Ontario, Canada confirmed the finding.

The story was consistent in a meteorite falling, and the fact that the bright fireball occurred at the exact same time made it a very overwhelming case, Western astronomy professor Peter Brown explained to the CBC.

Hamilton said that he had never felt so scared in his entire life. I didn't know what to do so I dialled 911. I saw that a rock had fallen between my pillows as I spoke with the operator.

Ann Hodgens from Alabama was the first person to be directly hit by a meteorite. According to Insider, an 8.5-pound meteorite crashed through her roof in 1954 and struck her on her hip. She survived with severe bruising.

Hamilton plans to keep the rock after Brown, Brown and his team take a detailed look at it as a memento of an extraordinary night.

Hamilton said that he felt like a leaf shaking. You are sound asleep and safe in your bed. A meteorite can take you out, it seems.
