EAST RUTHERFORD (N.J.) -- Quarterback Daniel Jones could play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams at MetLife Stadium after he recovers from a concussion, according to Joe Judge.
Jones is currently in the concussion program after he suffered a helmet to-helmet injury against the Dallas Cowboys. Jones stumbled woozily on the field, before being attended by medical personnel. He was then taken on a cart.
Three days later, Jones was fully padded and working on a side-field with trainers. He was doing sprints, snapping photos and throwing passes. Officially, he was not listed as a participant in Wednesday's practice.
As long as he is making progress, he can play this week.
Judge stated, "I would say that based on all the information available, yes." He would be an option if he was cleared medically.
Jones might not be able to practice, but it doesn't seem that important. He could still get on the field for a practice.
Judge said, "I wouldn't rule that out." If Jones isn’t available, Mike Glennon will take over. After the Giants' starter had left the game just before halftime, Glennon completed 16 of 25 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown.
New York, however, is clearly open to any outcome given the fragile state of the situation.
Judge stated that "we're fully prepared for both quarterbacks." Judge said that Mike does an excellent job each week of coming in and preparing. Jones' status is uncertain, but the Giants will almost certainly be without running back Saquon barkley (ankle), and wide receiver Kenny Golladay(knee). Both were not present at Wednesday's light training.
ESPN was told by a source earlier this week that it would take "couple of weeks" for New York's top players to return.
Positive news: Wide receivers KadariusToney (ankle), Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and safety Jabrill peppers all practiced in some capacity Wednesday.
After setting a Giants rookie record of 189 yards receiving, Toney seemed to be in good spirits. Shepard made it clear what his plans were for the week.
"I feel great. Shepard stated, "I feel ready to go."
He added, "Back this week," later. It looks good for Peppers and Slayton, as well as Toney.
The Giants (1-4), will be watching Jones throughout the week, as he follows the league's concussion protocol. Any setback could prevent him from returning against the Rams.
Jones appears to be prepping for the future by attending meetings.
Glennon stated that he is doing what he needs to do and that he is just like he was before. "I don't want to get into it on the medical side. He has been great."
Jones was playing the best football of any player in his career before the matchup against Dallas. Jones is ranked 10th in QBR with 61.2 yards and has thrown four touchdown passes this season, while only one interception was recorded.
