Apple Watch Series 7 Reviews: Larger Displays and Faster Charging, Not Much Else Has Changed

Apple Watch Series 7 models will be available to customers starting this Friday, October 15. They will also launch in stores on Friday, October 15. Reviews have already been shared by media outlets as well as YouTube channels ahead of time. We've also included video reviews and unboxings of the Apple Watch Series 7 models. Below, you will find some impressions from written reviews.

The Apple Watch Series 7 features include larger displays measuring 41mm and 45mm respectively, increased durability and IP6X-rated dust resistance. There are also 33 percent faster charging times with the included USB-C fast charger cable. New aluminum case colors are available, including midnight, starlight and green.

These are some images of the key features of the Apple Watch Series 7:

Larger Displays

Dieter Bohn, The Verge's editor, stated that although the Series 7's larger displays are welcome, they don't justify an annual upgrade.

The screen was made larger on the Apple Watch Series 4 back in 2014. I felt it made a significant difference to the user experience and worth the upgrade. The Series 7 screen has a better display, but it isn't good enough to warrant an upgrade.

As always, The Verge has a well-produced review video:

This is not a major departure from the norm, and it's not something that will be noticed by every generation. It's not enough to convince anyone to upgrade, and the buttons on the calculator that are 12% larger than before are not enough. Because the product must fit your body, designers are generally restricted from making radical design changes to wearables. Large designs made it difficult for users to wear the first smartwatches.

Faster charging

Brian Heater, TechCrunch's chief technology officer, said that the Series 7's larger size isn’t a significant departure from the Series 6 which was available in sizes of 40mm and 44mm.

Cherlynn Low, Engadget's Cherlynn, said that the Series 7's charging speed is faster than her Apple Watch SE.

It charges faster and I was able to reach 10 percent in just 10 minutes. With the included new cable, it reached nearly 100 percent in just an hour. The Apple Watch SE reached 60 percent in just an hour.

New Colors

Patrick O'Rourke, MobileSyrup's CEO, said that the Series 7's green aluminum case option was a nice throwback at the iPhone 11 Pro in Midnight Green.

Green is the new standout color. It is subtle but striking and a throwback the great-looking "Midnight Green" iPhone 11 colour of a few years back.

We have previously reported that some customers are not happy with the new Series 7 colors. Customers are particularly disappointed that Apple has replaced Silver and Gold in the aluminum models with a champagne-like Starlight colour.

Final Takeaways

CNET's Lisa Eadicicco believes that the Series 7 is a significant upgrade to the Series 6.

The Series 7 isn't the kind of upgrade that we have come to expect from Apple's smartwatches over the years. It's not a criticism. The Series 7 feels more like an improved version of the Series 6 watch, rather than a major upgrade. The Series 7 is an attractive option for those who are upgrading or first-time Apple Watch owners.
