Wayne Rooney manages Championship strugglers Derby County.
In a documentary, Wayne Rooney, former captain of Manchester United and England, will talk about his mental health. He will also give insight into major moments in his career.

Rooney, the programme, will air on Amazon Prime beginning in 2022.

Rooney, who is now Derby County's manager, will talk about moments that made him famous off and on the pitch.

Rooney, 35, stated that he wanted people to get a better view of him as a person.

"I wanted to be truthful and reflect on all that has happened in the course of my life. That is what I believe is important.

"If I do it, I'm not honest or don't talk about it, it wouldn't look real."

Rooney, England's and Manchester United's all time top scorer, retired earlier this year after a 19-year-long playing career. The documentary features the struggles Rooney had with dealing with the pressures that comes with playing at the top.

Rooney said, "People talk about mental illness - at that time, I saw someone at times."

It is about recognizing what was going on in your head, and how to deal with the pressures of playing for Manchester United, trying to succeed, and then playing for your country. Then, you have to take on a lot of that pressure. They will gain a deep insight into my mind.

"There have been many things over the past 20 years that have been well-publicised, and I felt it important people saw me behind closed doors as a family man and what it was like growing in a very difficult area of Liverpool.

"This film gives an inside look into the world."
