The St. Regis Dubai The Palm opened in May 2021. The St. Regis Dubai Downtown was opened this month, and it looks like it could offer Marriott loyalists a great option when they visit the city.
Basics of St. Regis Dubai Downtown
The opening of the St. Regis Dubai Downtown coincides with Expo 2020. The hotel is centrally located along the Dubai Water Canal, as the name implies. The hotel is located close to Dubai Mall, Dubai Design District and the International Financial Centre.
The St. Regis has 298 guest rooms, including two with floor-to ceiling windows, open bathrooms and walk-in closets. According to the website, standard rooms are 624 square feet.
The hotel has a number of food & drink outlets including Basta (an Italian restaurant), Bleu Blanc Oysters & Grill, The Library (a bar/lounge) and the St. Regis Bar (which can be found at all St. Regis properties worldwide). There is also a spa and a fitness center.

This property is a Category 8 Marriott Bonvoy. This is a Category 8 Marriott Bonvoy property?
The new St. Regis Dubai Downtown, which is Marriott's highest-ranking property category, is actually a Category 8 Marriott Bonvoy property. This means that you can redeem a night free of charge for between 70,000 and 100,000 Bonvoy points depending on whether you are staying off-peak, peak, or both.
The award pricing is confusing to me as the base rate for a base room at Expo 2020 is $300 per night. If you pay cash, I would expect a Category 8 Bonvoy property selling for around $1,000.
I'm not sure what Marriott and the hotel are thinking. Although the hotel may have high hopes for tripled rates, a downtown hotel with nearly 300 rooms is unlikely to get a higher price than currently being charged.
Book a rate at a discounted rate through Marriott STARS to receive benefits such as a complimentary breakfast and a room upgrade.
This property is a place I would love to live in.
I didn't mention that I wouldn't stay at the St. Regis Dubai The Palm when I wrote about it. The Palm is not my favorite hotel, so if I'm going to stay there, I would prefer a hotel that has balconies or direct beach access.
The St. Regis Dubai Downtown is a different place for me. This hotel seems like a great option if you want to be downtown, which I often do, due to its proximity to many things including the airport. Although the decor is a little too extravagant, the rooms are spacious and tasteful. I may also consider visiting this property next time I am in Dubai.
St. Regis is my favourite luxury Marriott brand. Platinum members get full elite perks at these properties including suite upgrades, breakfast and more.
This is the fourth attempt at St. Regis Dubai
The fourth St. Regis property in Dubai is the St. Regis Dubai Downtown. The first two properties are no longer owned by Marriott.
Bottom line
The St. Regis Dubai Downtown opened just months after St. Regis Dubai The Palm. Although the new hotel boasts nearly 300 rooms, the hotel appears to offer a lot of amenities.
Although the cash rates are reasonable, I find it hard to understand why this property is a Category 8 Marriott Bonvoy property.
What do you think of the St. Regis Dubai Downtown? Are you going to go?
(Tip of a hat to Faisal).
