Samsung’s new 980 Pro SSD for the PS5 brings its own heatsink

Samsung has released a new model of 980 Pro SSD for Sony's PlayStation 5. The SSD comes with a heatsink that is specifically made to fit in the PS5's M.2 SSD expansion slot. The new Samsung 980 Pro SSD model will be available on October 29th at $249.99 and $449.99, respectively.
Built-in heatsinks are designed to maintain temperatures low enough for sustained speeds. They can sequentially read up to 7,000MB/s, and sequential write up to 5,100MB/s. Although not many games can take advantage of these speeds on the PS5, Samsung's 980 Pro specs is way more than the 5,500MB/s recommended read speeds.

Sony recommends that compatible SSDs have a heatsink. PS5 owners can use the 980 Pro without a heatsink. However, this model allows people to easily insert the M.2 SSD directly into their PS5 without any modification.

Samsung lists the dimensions of this SSD as being 24mm (W), 8.6mm(H) and 80mm (L). Modern motherboards have heatsinks built in that will keep the 980 Pro at a cool temperature for extended periods of time. This heatsink option is aimed specifically at PS5 owners who are looking for the best SSD option.
