Allen West will run to be the Republican candidate for Texas governor.

He was admitted with COVID-19. He was discharged Monday. He has not been vaccinated against this virus.

Over the weekend, he continued to tweet his criticism of vaccine mandates while confined in hospital.

A Texas GOP gubernatorial candidate without a vaccine was admitted to a hospital with COVID-19 this weekend. He said that his experience has made him more committed to fighting vaccine mandates.

Allen West, who will be running for the Republican Party's Texas gubernatorial seat next year, stated in a Monday video that he was "doing well" after being discharged from the hospital.

Former US Representative for Florida, West was a retired Army lieutenant colonel and continued to tweet his criticisms of vaccine mandates from his hospital bed.

West tweeted Sunday, "I can attest to the fact that, after my experience, I am even greater committed to fighting against vaccine mandates." He also encouraged people to "not fear the virus" in the Monday video that he recorded from his home.

West said Saturday that Angela and he had tested positive for coronavirus. They were both admitted to hospital.

His wife was discharged on the weekend but West stated that he needed to stay longer due to concerns about his oxygen saturation. Although he claimed that his wife had been vaccinated, he did not.

West tweeted a series about how he and his wife had received monoclonal antibody therapy. This treatment was approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat COVID-19.

He also stated that he was using hydroxychloroquine as well as ivermectin to treat COVID-19. Trump was a former President who had advocated hydroxychloroquine as an anti-malaria drug. However, fringe doctors and believers of the QAnon movement were embracing ivermectin as a deworming medication for livestock.

In one tweet, West called the COVID-19 vaccine "dangerous". This despite numerous studies showing that the vaccine is safe. It dramatically reduces the chance of COVID-19-related deaths, hospitalizations, or severe COVID-19 related cases.
