Jon Stewart believes that former President Donald Trump is a good candidate to return to the White House, if he runs in 2024.
He has a good chance. I believe he's got it. Stewart said that they are smarter about it during a virtual interview with David Remnick, The New Yorker editor, Sunday as part The New Yorker Festival.
Stewart compared the Jan. 6th riot, where a mob made up of Trump supporters and his accomplices stormed Washington DC in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election, to the television special on which all TV networks were focusing.
Trump, an ex-reality star who has not yet declared his candidacy for the presidency, is brilliant at understanding how television stories will play out, according to Stewart, whose Apple TV+ show The Problem With Jon Stewart premiered last month.
Stewart said that a Trump future run would be all about Jan. 6th and Stop the Steal. But, what Republicans learned was that there are specific pivot points in the American electoral system. These pivot points are, generally speaking, the administration of elections by partisans and not ideologues.
Stewart suggested that the replacement of election officials with ideologues might lead to an administrative coup and early-stage minority rule.
Stewart said last month that he had misjudged Trump prior to the 2016 election. He claimed it was his ridiculousness and shamelessness which made him dangerous.
