Although there has been no official announcement, it is highly probable that Singapore Airlines will soon announce regular scheduled service to Canada after a 12-year hiatus.
Singapore Airlines returns to Canada
Singapore Airlines stopped flying to Canada in 2009. The airline had pulled its route between Singapore, Vancouver and Seoul Incheon. This is expected to change in the near future.
Swissport's Director of Commercial and Operations posted on LinkedIn that Singapore Airlines had chosen our Vancouver TEAM as their scheduled service provider from Singapore to Vancouver.
This is a good timing. Singapore will soon open its doors to vaccinated travelers, including from Canada. However, in order to travel, you must take a Vaccinated Travel Lane flight (VTL), which are designated flights between these two countries.
This is what you'll find if you take a look at the Singapore Airlines FAQs regarding the VTL concept:
Canada is a country in the Vaccinated Travel Lane. But, I can't find any flight from Canada to Singapore. Is it possible to find one soon? More details will be available at a later time.
It is only a matter time (if not days) before Singapore Airlines launches service to Vancouver.
Vancouver will soon be served by Singapore Airlines.
What type of flight should we expect to take?
Singapore Airlines is able to fly this flight with an Airbus A350-900 because they are only 8,000 miles from each other. It wouldn't be necessary to use the Airbus A350 900ULRs, which are special-configured planes that have extra fuel tanks and can be used to fly to Los Angeles or New York.
A nonstop flight between Singapore, Vancouver seems like the best option. Although it is possible for the airline to operate this flight via an intermediary country, that would not make sense at the moment, as the VTL concept requires that passengers travel on their own and are not mixed with others.
It remains to be seen whether this temporary service will continue as long as VTL is in effect or if it marks the Singapore Airlines' permanent return to Canada. The economics of the future may be more sensible than ever with improved fuel efficiency and operating cost over the past decade.
Singapore Airlines is expected to fly the A350 nonstop from Singapore.
Bottom line
Although the airline has not officially confirmed it yet, it appears highly probable that Singapore Airlines will soon announce a return trip to Canada after having suspended service for 12 years. It is likely that Singapore Airlines will fly nonstop from Singapore to Vancouver using A350s. All the clues and timing make sense, especially considering the Vaccinated Travel Lane concept that requires nonstop flights.
