KANSAS CITY (Mo.) The Buffalo Bills, after losing two games to the Kansas City Chiefs in last season's AFC title game, are determined to show that they have successfully closed the gap with their AFL rivals.
Josh Allen and his Bills team will have the chance to do so when they take on Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday Night Football.
Buffalo (3-1) came into the showdown fresh from a 40-0 win over the Houston Texans. They also boast one of the best defenses in the NFL. Kansas City (2-2), after a two-game skid in its previous games, hoped that its victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 would signal a return to winning ways. One thing is certain: Each team entered the matchup with one of the best young quarterbacks in the league.
There was some concern among Buffalo fans that the rain delay at halftime could have slowed the Bills' momentum going into the second period. However, Micah Hyde's pick-6 to make his team up 31-13 dispelled any fears.
Here's how it got here:
The Chiefs scored first when Harrison Butker, who was not following the theme of the day, made a field goal.
Allen came through in big fashion on the next drive. He quickly marched down the field with the Bills and scored their first touchdown of the night.
Mahomes was not to be outdone and scored a touchdown in the second quarter. He found wide receiver Byron Pringle in a zone in the end zone, giving the Chiefs a 10-7 lead.
The Bills were already in the end zone when we finished typing the sentence. To get the Bills back on top, Allen gave Emmanuel Sanders a 35-yard dime.
Allen continued to play and Buffalo led 14 to 14. He found Dawson Knox for the fifth touchdown of the season, a tight end touchdown from 53 yards.
The Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns had a shootout that ended in a shootout of 89 points.
The second half of the game is now set after a long rain delay that lasted approximately 2 hours and 10 mins. First, a Josh Allen statistic to consider: Sunday marked the second consecutive season Allen has 250 combined passing-rushing yards and three passing-rushing touchdowns. Only Kyler Murray (the other players) has done it this season.
