In the Buccaneers' win over the Dolphins, Tom Brady throws for 412 yards and five touchdowns. (1:43).
TAMPA (Fla.) -- Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady sustained a thumb injury in Tampa Bay's 45-17 win over the Miami Dolphins Sunday. This was the first game in his career in which Brady threw for more than 400 yards and five touchdowns.
The 44-year old signal-caller and seven time Super Bowl champion was even more impressive because he was able to play with the injury for most of the game.
Bruce Arians laughed as his team moved to 4-1 and took first place in NFC South.
Brady, who had 411 passing yards, was seen with tape around his thumb and wrist after the game. Brady has always maintained that he is "old school" regarding injuries and prefers not to divulge much or to even reveal any.
Brady stated, "In my younger years, I probably wouldn't have shown you guys." I'd probably keep it secret. However, it's not something I care about at this point in my life. It's a minor football injury so I'll try my best to prepare for the game. We'll see how it turns out.
Brady won't have much time to rest. Instead of spending Monday reviewing film and Tuesday off, Brady will have to practice Monday before heading to Philadelphia to face the 2-3 Eagles Thursday night.
"We have a very short week. It's a fast turnaround. Brady stated that last year we didn't perform well in a short week. "We have to put a lot of effort into this game. We're playing against a Philly football team that has done some great things.
It's a challenge. Brady stated that they face the same challenges. Get plenty of water, lots of treatment, a good night's sleep, and you will be prepared for the week.
Brady was not affected by the injury. The win was shared with Brady's 13-year old son Jack, who is visiting. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, he also joked about running for 13 yards in quarter two, reaching a maximum speed 16.36 mph.
"I feel fast. Brady laughed and said that he would have a QB to pitch outside. I'll let those guys be. The NFL's best players can run for 30 yards. I can convert a 30-yarder into 10 yards faster than anyone.
Brady is 12 every day that he shows up to practice," Arians stated. He's more like Jack out there than Brady. He is like a small child out there.
According to ESPN Stats and Information research, Sunday's game with Brady was the 14th time in NFL history that a quarterback has thrown for 400 yards with five passing touchdowns. This was the oldest player to do it before Sunday. Peyton Manning was 37 years old when he played in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. He threw for 462 yard with seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
According to Elias Sports Bureau Brady's 15 touchdown passes were also the highest over the first five games a season for a quarterback who played for the Super Bowl-winning sideline team.
Brady was one of four QBs that shared the 14-year-old record when he reached it through five games in 2015.
