New York Giants runningback Saquon Barkley (left foot) and quarterback Daniel Jones, (concussion), were both taken off the field during Sunday's game against Dallas Cowboys. They were then ruled out of the rest of the contest.
Kenny Golladay, wide receiver, was also out with a knee injury.
Jones was trying to reach the end zone with a third-down running late in the second half. He collide helmet-to-helmet near the goal line with Dallas linebacker JabrilCox. Jones fell to the turf and his mask was smashed against the turf.
After the hit, the quarterback stumbled slowly and appeared woozy. The officials helped him to his feet, while teammates and teammates helped him get up. Jones was immediately taken to the locker area by the cart. Mike Glennon took over at quarterback.
Barkley's left leg was turned inward when he stepped on Jourdan Lewis, a Dallas cornerback in the first quarter. This happened after an inadvertent pass in his direction. Barkley was in severe pain and limped off.
Giants' running back star was seen on the sideline, his shoe off and his ankle very swollen. Before being removed to the locker room, he bowed his arms at his legs and screamed in dismay.
The Giants now have seven of their 11 Week 1 offensive starters out: Barkley, Jones, Barkley and Golladay; left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot); wide receiver Sterling Shepard [hamstring], left guard Shane Lemieux(knee] and center Nick Gates (“leg”).
Barkley's injury occurs just as he seems to be returning to full fitness after a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season. Barkley scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime last week to beat the New Orleans Saints and also received a 54-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Barkley entered Sunday's game with 52 carries, 186 yards, and two touchdowns.
