William Shatner’s Blue Origin launch into space delayed due to weather

After Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin company moved this week's launch target for its New Shepard vehicle, the Star Trek actor William Shatner will have to wait until Wednesday to bravely venture into space.
Blue Origins mission operations team decided to delay the launch date of NS-18 due to the forecasted winds on Tuesday, 12 October. They now aim to launch NS-18 by Wednesday, 13 October.

Shatner is best-known for his role as Captain James T Kirk on Star Trek TV series.

Canadian-born actor, thespian, was a bit windy and told New York Comic Con audience: "I am terrified." Yes, I do! I'm Captain Bloody Kirk, and I'm terrified!

The actor, who is 90 years old, also stated that Bezos told him: You'll be the oldest man in space.

Shatner replied, "I don't want to be the oldest man in space," I'm Captain Kirk!

Wally Funk is the oldest person to have been in space. She was 82 years old when she flew with Bezos and his brother Oliver Daemen on their first Blue Origin flight. Daemen, who is 18 years old, is the youngest person to go into space.

Shatner will fly as an invited guest. Blue Origin claims that it has sold almost $100 million in tickets.

Blue Origin also stated that its mission operations team confirmed the New Shepard vehicle had met all requirements. Shatner and other astronauts had started their training on Sunday.
