Southwest Airlines cancels hundreds of flights

NEW YORK (AP), Southwest Airlines cancelled hundreds of flights this weekend. They blamed weather and air traffic control issues for the cancellations.
According to FlightAware, the airline had cancelled 1,019 flights or 28% of its scheduled flights on Sunday at 5 p.m. Eastern. This was the highest cancellation rate of all the major U.S. airlines.

The flight tracker shows that Spirit and Allegiant were next in line. They had respectively cancelled 5% and 4 percent of their flights on Sunday. American Airlines cancelled 2% of its flights.

According to FlightAware, Southwest cancelled 808 flights Saturday.

Southwest tweeted Saturday that "TC issues, disruptive weather" had caused a large number of cancellations over the weekend as it attempted to recover its operation. We appreciate your patience while we accommodate affected customers. Customer service wait times are longer than normal.
