An RSS reader is a great way to keep up with all the news, whether you're tired of social media or want to avoid endless notifications. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This protocol allows RSS readers to communicate with your favorite websites to receive updates. Instead of looking at 10 different websites to find out what's new you can view one page that contains all the new content.
Two parts of RSS are the RSS reader and RSS feeds from your favorite sites. RSS has been around for a while, so there are many excellent RSS readers. Many of them have built-in search and suggestions so that you don't need to hunt for RSS feeds. There are always cool sites you might find.
RSS has been a part of my life for more than a decade. I recently tried out nearly a dozen RSS reader services. These are the top RSS readers currently available. For easy reading on the move, grab one of our Best Tablets and Best iPads once you have found one that you like.
Gear readers get a $5/1-year subscription to WIRED ($25). You will have unlimited access to WIRED.com as well as our print magazine (if desired). Subscribers help us fund our daily work.

Inoreader has a well-designed, readable interface. It offers good search and discovery options. There are also a number of features that are both user-friendly for beginners and more advanced users. You can access the web interface as well as iOS or Android apps. Inoreader can handle more than RSS feeds. You can also add email newsletters and Facebook pages, search Twitter, and podcasts.
Advanced users will appreciate additional features such as keyword monitoring. Inoreader searches all of your feeds looking for keywords or phrases. It then creates a feed with only those articles. You can also hide articles that match a particular phrase. Inoreader offers an automation system that you can use to create and filter your feeds. Some are given a higher priority. You could receive a push notification when WIRED publishes new reviews, but not for the rest of our content.
