Fury scored the decisive blow in round 11.
Tyson Fury defeated Deontay Wilder in an 11th round knockout to keep his WBC heavyweight title. Their trilogy bout was another great success at the T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas.
After Fury's defeat, Fury was dethroned by the American twenty months ago. The 33-year old had to prove his resilience and resolve to win 32 more fights. He was twice knocked out in the fourth round.
Fury sent his opponent sprawling in an explosive final, but Wilder recovered quickly and Wilder was able to catch Wilder. The Briton ended up on the other end of the Bronze Bomber’s massive right hand twice in rapid succession.
Wilder was still hanging on at the end of the seventh, but it was still a tough fight by the 10th. Fury then knocked Wilder down again, before Fury delivered the last blow in the 11th. This was the end of this particular chapter in heavyweight boxing.
Fury said, "I was down a few times, I was injured, Wilder is strong puncher."
It was a great fight. Wilder is a great fighter and I won't make excuses. He is second, and I have always said I'm the best fighter in the universe.
"Don't ever doubt me. If the chips are low, I can always deliver.
Fury and his entourage including his wife Paris celebrate the ring.
Fury proves he can't be defeated
Although this fight was not Fury's ideal, it delivered the blockbuster fight the Las Vegas crowd wanted.
Tensions were simmering all week, and only grew as Wilder's delayed entry left the arena. After a while, the lights went out and Wilder, who had listed Fury's elaborate and heavy ring-walk outfit, was finally allowed to enter in a less formal fur-lined gown.
What good is a few minutes of a classic tussle that took more than a full year to develop?
Fury was dressed as a Roman centurion as the fighters entered the ropes. This was followed by a background of AC/DC.
This was pre-pandemic. The Morecambe-based fighter was buoyed in part by the thousands of UK supporters who had flooded to Las Vegas for their cause. However, travel restrictions meant that there wasn't going to be the same boisterous following this time.
The local support was awed by Fury's performance once again, as he proved that, despite being on the canvas, it is impossible to write off this man.
Wilder was out to dictate starting at the first bell. Fury used a series jabs to his body to assess Fury's opponent. Malik Scott, a new trainer, said that he has more tools than he had previously.
Wilder's new regimen was announced amid questions about Fury's preparation. The original summer fight date was cancelled when Fury contracted Covid-19. It was quickly rescheduled to October. Fury had to rush back to the UK to be with Paris for Athena's birth.
The American had also closed that gap in weight. Fury weighed 19st 11lbs more than Wilder, but both men were still the heaviest in their professional careers.
After Wilder's fast opening exchange, Fury took control and used a large left-right combination to send the Alabaman to his knees.
The 35-year old survived the count and, refueled by the bell, felled Fury in the fourth with a mammoth right. He then followed up with another to send Fury tumbling twice in one round for the first-time in his career.
Fury rose however and Wilder, who had been holding on for several rounds, was knocked down in the 10th. Before the champion landed a right, the fight ended after 11 thrilling rounds.
After Wilder had been floored, the referee Russell Mora called the fight.
"I am the greatest heavyweight champion my generation."
Fury has overcome every obstacle thrown at him, but to be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world since Lennox Lewis 2000, he will have to win the titles held by Oleksandr Uzyk.
The Ukrainian is set to fight Anthony Joshua in a rematch to see if the Briton can regain his WBF, IBF, and WBO crowns. Fury is certain that Joshua is the greatest heavyweight in this exciting era.
He said, "I have proven time and again that you can never write me off." "I wasn't at my best, but I pulled it out when it was needed.
He did not give up, but that last right hand to the side of his head was what finally brought him down.
"I was not hurt. When you are hit, you fall to the ground. I was conscious all the time and got up. I was just one punch away from knocking him out during the entire fight.
"I am without doubt the greatest heavyweight champion of all time." Number 1. You will burn if you continue to play with fire.
