As the US experiences shortages, it will be harder to find certain items in grocery stores.
CNN Business reported that it is likely that spice, sweets and snacks from popular brands such as certain Kellogg's cereals, Sour Patch Kids candy and some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors, McCormick gourmet spice blends, Marie Callender's pot pies, and Sour Patch Kids candy will be difficult to find due to delays.
CNN Business reports that Kellogg sent at least four grocery distributors last week an email stating that Pringles Snacks stacks, Eggo pancakes and Rice Krispies Treats snacks were "still below service expectations" until the end of 2012.
Kellogg workers are also striking, demanding better benefits for their health, retirement, vacation, and holiday pay. According to the union, Rice Krispies are one of the products that will be affected by these shortages.
Insider was informed by Kris Bahner, a spokesperson for Kellogg, that Kellogg is "implementing contingency planning to mitigate supply disruptions". This means that we limit orders for certain times periods and encourage full truck loads in order to service every customer, community, and shopper as best we can.
According to Unilever's email to a distributor, Unilever, the manufacturer Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, is prioritizing top-selling products while fighting a "limited ability of meet demand" due to labor shortages. Insider reached out to Unilever for comment but they did not respond.
McCormick's Gourmet product line is not affected by the ongoing packaging shortage, Lori Robinson, McCormick spokesperson, stated in an email to CNN Business. McCormick didn't respond to Insider's request for comment about when customers can view its full range of products again on shelves.
As a result of disruptions in supply chains, stores have experienced shortages across the US. Delays in transportation and manufacturing have impacted everything, including food, clothing, cars, paper and plastics. Moreover, ongoing strikes and shortages of workers have contributed to these disruptions.
Manufacturers had to come up with creative ways to combat disruptions in their supply chains, including renting container ships to avoid delays in product shipment and empty shelves in stores in time for the holiday shopping season.
