New York City Apple security guard was attacked after telling a customer to put on a mask.
According to the NYPD, the assailant fled the scene while the victim was being taken to the hospital in a "serious but stable" condition.
This is just the latest violent incident in a series of violence that has erupted throughout the country over mask requirements.
On Friday, a New York City security guard was attacked by a customer after he challenged him about mask requirements.
Insider was told by a spokesperson from the New York Police Department that the security guard, 37 years old, was stabbed once in the left arm and once in the forehead with the knife after a dispute over wearing a mask inside of the store.
According to a spokesperson, there is no suspect in NYPD custody.
NYPD described the suspect as an "unknown male Black" wearing a black sweatshirt, red lettering, blue jeans and black sneakers. He fled the scene to a nearby subway station.
"The victim was transported via EMS to Bellevue Hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition. Detective Sophia Mason stated that there is currently no arrest and that the investigation is ongoing.
Mason stated that the incident occurred at the Apple store on Ninth Avenue West 14th Street shortly after 6 p.m. Friday.
According to an automated message left on the store's voicemail, the store was "closed till further notice". Apple requires masks to be worn in stores. Insider did not receive a response immediately.
Masks are required in New York City for public transport, hospitals, and schools. According to local guidance, masks should be worn indoors.
This was just the latest violent confrontation over mask mandates. Similar incidents took place across the country. A Wisconsin man punched an employee of a pizzeria who requested him to wear a face mask. A father beat an elementary school teacher in California over California's mask requirements. And a Pennsylvania employee at a theme park was punched for telling a visitor that he would follow masking protocols.
