Tyson Fury v Deontay Wilder III: Predictions for WBC world heavyweight title bout

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury exchange heated words during weigh-in for the third fight
Fury v Wilder III Location: T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Date: Saturday 9 October (approx 04.00 BST Sunday 10 October). Live text updates available on BBC Sport's website.

The WBC heavyweight title will be up for grabs when Tyson Fury of Britain takes on Deontay Wilder from the United States.

After their December 2018 fight ended in a controversial draw and Fury won the rematch in Feb 2020 with a seven-round stoppage, Fury will now face them in Las Vegas.

Can Fury win another victory or will Wilder take revenge? We asked top boxing figures for their opinions on the big fight.

It will begin at 4:00 BST on Sunday. Live text commentary will be available on the BBC Sport website.

Anthony Joshua, two-time world heavyweight champion: "Let’s go with Wilder parce qu’il seems obsessed, as if he really wants it. He's focused. A focused man can be dangerous. Wilder may be the one to make the call. It has to be a knockout. The other will be knocked out by one of them."

SugarHill Steward, Fury's trainer: "It's going be a knockout. Tyson knocks Wilder out. It was what I believed last year, and it will be the same this time. He's improved on everything we have done. He is learning new things, and the object and goal is to improve. This is for Tyson and me. I wanted Tyson Fury to be the best Tyson Fury. We've worked together to get him on the right track to becoming the best.

Frank Warren, Fury's copromoter, said that "Wilder" will be in seven rounds. He could easily go if Tyson captures him early. However, he could be there in seven rounds. I would be shocked."

Lennox Lewis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world: "I'm not a good predictor." It's going to be an amazing fight. Tyson Fury is able to use a lot more weapons and tools than he does. Deontay could learn a few tricks that he can use to have fun. It's going to be an entertaining fight all around.

Dillian Whyte, British heavyweight: "The smart money would choose Tyson Fury to win once again. But something tells me that Wilder might surprise us."

Anthony Fowler, super-middleweight, will fight Liam Smith in Liverpool this Saturday. Fury has outboxed Wilder and outbrawned his opponent. Wilder is unlikely to win, Fury is just too good."

Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua's promoter: "Fury may be a favourite, but Wilder can end a fight at any moment." It's heavyweight boxing, and that's what makes it so exciting. Fury wins on points."

Steve Egan, Fury's amateur trainer: "Tyson always wins." Maybe it will go to eighteen or nine. It won't go all the way, I think. He will finish him. Wilder will be frustrated and punch himself out.

UFC fighter Molly McCann says that Tyson can do it in six.

David Price, a British heavyweight, announced his retirement this week. It'll be a long fight. Wilder will likely start quickly, but Fury will take control in the middle to late rounds and end him."

BBC Radio 5 Live analyst Steve Bunce said: "My prediction has changed. I had hoped for Tyson. But, having seen him, I am absolutely convinced. We will get another one. It was almost a repeat, punch-for-punch and round-for–round of the February incident.

UFC president Dana White says, "I think Fury is too good." Fury has that number, I believe.

Malik Scott, Wilder's trainer: "Is everything gone?" No, but he's been trained to be patient and surgically competent and can knock Fury out in five rounds if he follows the pace that we set. Deontay will punish Tyson Fury if he takes his opponents for granted in three to six rounds. We will see if Fury is able to handle this onslaught.

Shelly Finkel, Wilder's manager, said that Deontay's dream was to win this match. Although I don't normally act arrogant, I believe Deontay will knock him out.

WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Uzyk: "I don’t care too much about who loses. It will be a great fight. Deontay Wilder is always the one to beat, so don't dismiss him. "I'm not very good at making predictions."
