Some animals alter their coats to match their environment, and to avoid predators. For example, in winter their colour may change from brown to white. Certain species are now mismatched with their habitats due to climate change.

Lepus americanus, a snowshoe hare that lives in Canada and the northern US, turns white in autumn as snow begins to fall. However, mismatched animals can lead to them losing their sense of balance.
