In a competition organized by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a team of walking and flying robots successfully explored an underground complex. The prize was worth $2 million.

DARPA holds contests to promote fledgling technologies. In 2005, self-driving car teams were the most successful.

The latest event was held at the Louisville Mega Cavern, Kentucky, last month. Robots were tasked with finding specific items.
