Elon Musk Says He’s “Dying” to Develop a Supersonic Electric Jet

However, the project could make his "brain explode."

Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO, admitted in a tweet that he would love to fly a supersonic electric VTOL plane.

Musk said that adding more work would make my brain explode. He also added emojis with brains and firecrackers to illustrate his point.

He is CEO of an electric car company, space company, and brain interface firm, which gives him plenty of work to do.

High Speed Flight

The billionaire discussed what a jet might look like in his 2018 appearance on Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the episode where Musk famously smoked an infamous blunt.

Musk said to Rogan that he had a plan for a plane. This is something I've been thinking about a lot.

He said that the trick to level flight is to make the transition. You would not use the same thing for vertical takeoff or landing as for high speed flight.

Musk explained that once you reach high altitude, your energy consumption in cruise is very low and you can then recapture a large portion of your gravitational potential energy while you are down. You don't really need any reserve fuel.

Jet Set

It seems that Musk has retracted the idea.

Musk said that the electric plane is not necessary at this time, back in 2018.

He argued that electric cars are important and solar energy is also important. These are more important than making electric supersonic VOLOL.

According to Musk's recent tweet, he seems to have not changed his mind about this over the past three years. This is despite the fact many things have changed since then for Musk's companies, and that's not an exaggeration.

Musk is a busy man. He has done everything, from launching space tourism to mass-produce electric cars, to becoming one of the most wealthy people in the world (twice).
