Former NBA guard J.R. Smith set to play first golf tourney for North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO (N.C.) -- J.R. Smith, a former NBA guard, will make his debut next week in North Carolina A&T golf.
Smith will be playing in his first collegiate tournament at the Phoenix Invitational hosted Elon. The tournament will be held at the 6,867-yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club course.

Smith, 36, is now enrolled at N.C. A&T after 16 NBA seasons. He joined the team as a freshman walkon. All team golfers must be able to qualify for the tournaments in practice, unless he finished first or second in any previous tournament. Smith was 1 stroke ahead of the next week's tournament.
