Although Del Rey and Lucasfilm Publishing won't officially be present at New York Comic Con, they will bring their usual slice of upcoming novel news.
StarWars.com announced today four new Star Wars books by Del Rey and Disney Lucasfilm Press. These are in addition to the many upcoming stories within the High Republic series of comics and novels. Two fascinating tales of the Clone Wars, and the time between Return of the Jedi & The Force Awakens are coming from Del Rey. Brotherhood, which is published by Mike Chen on May 10, 2022, is set in the Clone Wars' early days. Obi Wan is sent to investigate the terror attack on Cato Nemoidia, the homeworld of the Trade Federation. Only to discover Anakin, who has just ascended to Jedi Knight and is now defying Obi Wan's personal requests to tag along. The book will answer the Revenge of the Sith joke about Anakin saving his master's life many times. It also explores the awkward relationship Anakin, Obi-Wan, and their struggle to be friends in the last days of the Republic.
Shadow of the Sith, another Del Rey novel by Adam Christopher (out June 28, 2022), instead takes readers to a post-Return of the Jedi world with Luke Skywalker & Lando Calrissian. The story is set in the hunt for Palpatines Sith assassin Ochi of Bestoon. This was briefly touched on in The Rise of Skywalker. However, Marvels current Darth Vader comic will provide a better look at Ochi of Bestoon as an amazing, terrible man who eats shit at all possible opportunities. Shadow of the Sith, aside from fleshing out Ochis character is quite interesting, as it wants to lay the seeds for Palaptine, the Sith Eternals rise upon Exegol, and also explore Ochis last mission, which was to find the granddaughter of Darth Sidious and her parents.
Two books by Lucasfilm Press will be targeted at younger readers. The first book, Stories of Jedi Sithout, June 7, 2022 by Jennifer Heddlecollating stories of Force-users from both the Light and Dark side. Roseanne A is on the author list. Brown, Sarwatchadda and Delilah S. Dawson are among the authors. Tessa Gratton is also on the list. Jake Bartok will be creating new illustrations. Padawan will be released July 26th and is written by Kiersten white. It follows Obi-Wan as he struggles to find his masters.
It suffices to say that between these books and the next wave of High Republic books already announced, you won't be able swing a lightsaber without hitting a Star Wars book or six next year.
