Emma Raducanu currently resides in Indian Wells. She will be competing this week.
Johanna Konta, former British number one, was "watching in amazement" as Emma Raducanu won the US Open title.
Raducanu (18 years old) has moved up to 22nd place in the world rankings, after being the first qualifier for a Grand Slam.
She is currently in California, where her competition in the BNP Paribas Open will be held.
Konta spoke of Raducanu’s win, saying that it was "unprecedented" and would be "a captivating moment in sporting history."
BBC Radio 5 Live's 30-year-old said, "I was in awe." She took everything in her stride. Emma is a great example of how to take everything with ease.
Konta stated that Raducanu may have been helped by "not knowing the gravity" of the situation, and added "there is some bliss to naivety".
Konta added, "But you still need to show up and execute."
She seems to be very composed and conscious of the reasons she is doing what is best for her.
"She is an incredibly bright girl and I believe she applies this to her tennis." She is a remarkable young girl."
"My 2021 Grand Slams were pretty bad"
Konta played the Western & Southern Open last August
Konta won't be playing in Indian Wells due to a groin injury which kept her from the US Open after a difficult season.
Hours before her first match, she withdrew from Grand Slam. She also missed Wimbledon due to a coronavirus contact.
Konta had to withdraw from her match in February at the Australian Open due to an abdominal injury. She also had to deal with a long-standing knee problem.
She said, "My Grand Slam 2021 could be summarized as it was pretty rubbish."
"The body needs to take a break. I am looking after it and trying my best to get it back to full strength.
"I am not happy, but I am positive and generally happy." There are many reasons to smile so I try to remember that.
Konta, who was previously ranked number four in the world, has fallen to 82nd. However she says that she has never put a time limit on her career.
She stated, "I've always wanted to be playing as long and as hard as my body will allow me to."
