Virgin Voyages embarks on first cruise from U.S. port

Virgin Voyages' original ship, the Scarlet Lady, set sail on Wednesday for its first passenger sailing. The five-day cruise took the ship from Miami to New York.
Virgin first announced its intention to create a cruise line in 2014. In 2014, Virgin stated that the departure had been "more than seven year in the making." Virgin Voyages was introduced in 2015 and is an adult-only cruise line.

In mid-September, the first Lady Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady arrived at New York City. It was greeted by media and travel agents.

Virgin Group founder Richard Branson stated that Virgin Voyages was "very much charting its own path", offering a fresh outlook on cruise travel with a mixture of the familiar as well as a healthy dose Virgin satisfaction.

Virgin originally intended to launch Scarlet Lady cruises in March 2020 from Miami, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the ship's arrival. Virgin called the Scarlet Lady's August preview cruises successful.

The Scarlet Lady will sail from Miami on four- or five-day Caribbean itineraries. This is only for vaccinated passengers.

The Fire & Sunset Soirees, a four-day event, will stop at Nassau and the Beach Club in Bimini. There, the ship will stay late to allow sunset bonfires as well as DJ-led "floatilla" parties.

Five-day Riviera Maya sailings, which will take you to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico, as well as five-day Dominican Daze cruises that will take you to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
