After a difficult time at Chelsea, AC Milan "showed faith" in me - Tomori
Fikayo Tomori, England's centre-back, says that while Chelsea ended his time there was "difficult", but he is now settled at AC Milan.
He was 23 years old when he capped England, but he is now in the Three Lions squad to play in their World Cup qualifiers against Andorra or Hungary.
Since joining Milan in January, Tomori has played 31 games for Milan. This was in a loan move that was made permanent in the summer.
He said, "I'm really pleased that it has been so successful so far."
"We started the new season strong [unbeaten in Serie A], and the club has shown a lot faith in me. It has made me feel very settled, and it has helped me get here.
Tomori was a member of the Chelsea team from 2019-20. He played 19 times before the December end and made his England debut in Kosovo as a substitute.
He played only six times in 2020, and one time in January 2021, before joining Milan.
He said, "It was difficult. Every footballer wants to be a player and I had the chance to do that at Milan."
"I didn’t dwell on it. It is part of football and part life. I am very happy and have a great support system with my family members and friends.
"I believe so [that the move was justified]. I was not in the England squad at the end of my time at Chelsea. Something must have gone right for me to go to Milan and get back in the team.
Canada-born Tomori hopes to win his second England cap in Andorra, Saturday, or at Wembley against Hungary Tuesday (both 19.45 BST).
He said, "There's definitely an opportunity to impress." "I will show my self on the training pitch, and if I have the chance to pitch on the pitch, I'll do it. I will do whatever the manager tells me."
