Lufthansa will stop offering alcohol in economy and premium economy long-haul flights. This is to improve customer satisfaction, but don't worry.
Lufthansa adjusts long haul service
Lufthansa recently removed the complimentary food and drinks for short-haul economy flights. This was replaced by an updated buy on board menu known as Onboard Delights Interkont. The Interkont stands for intercontinental.
The new service concept has been tested on flights to Boston (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX) since mid-October. It is expected that it will be available on all long haul routes by December 1, 2021.
Lufthansa has decided to stop offering free liquor for long-haul economy and premium economy passengers. However, the airline will continue to offer complimentary beer or wine.
What should passengers be expecting beyond the alcohol service changes? Similar to short-haul flights, passengers will have the option to purchase snacks and beverages onboard. This will be an addition to the main services.
Long haul economy passengers can expect to buy snacks onboard
Lufthansa wants to make you love this change
Lufthansa is a great airline. It can make a negative seem positive. The airline explained that free alcohol on long-haul flights is being replaced with liquor and snacks available for purchase.
This is done in order to increase customer satisfaction on long-haul flights. It's done by offering a wider range of high-quality products
Lufthansa responds to guests' diverse preferences when it comes time to choose food and beverages aboard
Even in between services, guests have different needs than standard products. They want more variety and higher quality.
Only spirits that were given as freebies prior to the pandemic will be transferred into the chargeable range. (The tone of suggesting that liquor was a freebie is just too patronizing for a Skytrax 5-star carrier)
Lufthansa is in a spin-down mode, eh? Here's how Lufthansa described the change when it removed even free soft drinks from short-haul economy:
The current Economy Class snack offer does not always meet our guests' expectations. Based on feedback from customers, the new offer was created. Our passengers will have the option to choose what to eat or drink during their trip with the high-quality offer.
Free drinks were not a favorite with customers! Diet Coke tastes better when you pay for it!
Lufthansa promotes this positive change as an opportunity
Bottom line
Lufthansa will introduce a new buy-on board snack menu for economy long haul flights starting in December 2021. This new Lufthansa buy on board short haul service will drive it.
Lufthansa will continue to serve the same meals as ever, but Lufthansa will no longer offer liquor as a complimentary service.
What do you think of Lufthansa's long-haul service changes?
