Gas prices have risen steadily this year and Americans now pay the highest pump price in seven years.
According to AAA, the national average price per gallon for gas was $3.22 on Wednesday. This is the highest level since October 2014. Some consumers pay much more.
California's average price of $4.42 is more than one dollar higher than the national average. Prices in Mono County have reached $5.
An oil rebound is causing rising gas prices. The West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures, which is the benchmark U.S. oil price, traded at $77.60 per barrel Wednesday after rising to $79 in the previous session. This was the highest level since November 2014. A barrel of WTI cost $40 a year ago.
