Halide's New Macro Mode Lets You Take Close-Up Photos Without an iPhone 13 Pro

iPhone 13 Pro models have an upgraded Ultra Wide camera that features autofocus. This allows users to take macro photos of insects, flowers and other objects up to 2cm from the lens.

Apple's Macro Mode is only available for iPhone 13 Pro models. However, those with older iPhones may still be able to take advantage of the feature. Halide announced today that it has updated its third-party camera app with its Macro Mode. This means there are no additional accessories. This feature is available for all iPhones that have a Neural Engine (including the iPhone 8 and older).

Halide stated that the Macro Mode checks which of your iPhone's lenses can focus closest to you and then switches to it. This feature allows for ultra-precise focus control, down to the sub-millimeter, to ensure sharp photos. A Neural Macro feature, which is AI-based, enhances the detail in the photo once it has been shot.

Halide stated that if you have an iPhone 13 Pro, Halide explained that its Macro Mode basically stacks on top Apple's Macro Mode. This results in "staggeringly near, microscope-like shots, which are even more highly magnified."

To activate Macro Mode in Halide, tap first the AF button to enter manual focus, then tap the button for the flower. This feature is free for existing users. Version 2.5 of the app is now available on the App Store. The Halide app costs $2.99 per month, $11.99 per annum, or $49.99 for a single purchase.
