It can be as addictive as drug addiction to trade cryptocurrencies. Tony Marini, a therapist at Castle Craig, Scotland, is particularly aware of this fact. Castle Craig is the first rehab clinic in the world to treat cryptocurrency addiction.

Marini explained to Decrypt that the trend is worsening, with inquiries rising tenfold in the past year. Marini said that there are others who have lost their passwords to crypto wallets and were permanently cut off from crypto worth millions. This can lead to suicidal thinking.

Decrypt said that he didn't want to hear about people who have lost a lot of money. They are ashamed. They feel so guilty. They don't want to talk about it.

Castle Craig has been treating crypto addictions since 2018. He said that many cases are intertwined with drug and alcohol addictions. This can lead to an addiction even to cryptocurrency.

Marini explained to Decrypt that most people start because they want the dark web to sell stuff. The only way to achieve that is through cryptocurrency. The greatest problem with crypto is the cross-addiction [with drugs and alcohol].

Castle Craig residents can only use their phones for a maximum of two hours per week. Only nicotine and caffeine are allowed.

Steven Elphinstone, who is a patient at the clinic for just over two months, stated that he believes there should be a 12-step program for crypto addiction.
