New York mom and her son were charged with aiding in the theft from a laptop belonging Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker. The incident occurred during the January 6 Capitol Riot. It took place months after an FBI raid was conducted on an Alaskan home in April to search for the computer.
According to court documents, Insider discovered that Maryann Mooney Rondon, 55, and Rafael Rondon (23), were both arrested Friday in connection to the theft of the laptop. They are also facing additional charges for their involvement in the Capitol attack that occurred earlier this year.
According to court documents, Mooney-Rondon's son and daughter were identified by the FBI in a tip received in May. The tips included a series photographs taken during the uprising. Investigators located the pair near the Capitol Building on January 6 using cell phone location data.
According to prosecutors, surveillance video inside the building showed Rondon and Mooney-Rondon entering Pelosi’s conference room at 2:30 p.m. on that afternoon. A 5-second video taken by a witness shows a person reaching for a laptop and gloves while sitting at a conference table. A criminal complaint states that rings found on the hand of the suspect are consistent with Mooney-Rondon images captured on surveillance cameras throughout the building.
The video shows a female voice saying "Dude, put your gloves on," as an unidentified male uses the gloves to grab the laptop. According to court documents, the recording also shows Rondon standing at the table with another man dressed in the same way.

Investigators have confirmed that the laptop was taken from Pelosi’s conference room in January 6. According to the Associated Press, the laptop was used only for presentations.
According to the complaint, Mooney-Rondon confessed to having been in the Capitol and Pelosi’s conference room on that day during a voluntary interview. Mooney-Rondon also admitted that she provided gloves and a scarf to assist a man in stealing Pelosi's laptop.
Rondon admitted in separate interviews that he had helped with the theft. He said that he helped to put the laptop into a bag by using a glove.
Rondon claims that one of the individuals tried to pull the ethernet cables from one of our laptops while we were there. "And I was honest, a bit afraid, because he didn't know if I had anything on him. . . I helped him a bit, but that was probably foolish of me.
According to the complaint, FBI agents obtained an Alaska search warrant for Mooney-Rondon's home based on evidence that the husband and wife had trespassed in the January 6 riot. This was a few weeks after receiving a tip identifying Mooney Rondon and her son in photographs. Mooney-Rondon was allegedly misidentified by at least two witnesses in photos taken from the scene.
According to The AP, Rondon and Mooney-Rondon appeared before a federal court in Syracuse, New York on Friday. They were both released pending further proceedings.
Both mother and son did not have access to attorney information, so they could not be reached for comment.
