Box Office: Where 'Joker' Currently Stands Amongst All DC Films

The controversial Joker has had quite the start to its box office run, as it's achieved the best opening weekend for an October film ever. Plus, Joker is well on its way to becoming Joaquin Phoenix's most lucrative film.

The film represents a bit of an artistic departure from the blockbuster fare of the DC Extended Universe, which has produced several high-grossing films over the past several years-including one that surpassed $1 billion. And that universe doesn't even include the wildly successful Christopher Nolan Batman films.

With that said, where does Joker rank amongst all DC films at the box office after just one weekend? And what numbers can we expect from Joker moving forward as it's positioned in the DCEU?

Opening Weekend Rankings

We're going to survey every single DC Comics film, and not just the ones in the newly established DCEU. To make it more fair, we'll also account for ticket price inflation.

Domestic Gross

As Joker has only been out for one weekend, let's take stock of the DC films' past performances during their first three days in theaters.

As you can see, Joker ranks seventh amongst all the DC films. Surprisingly, it doesn't move far down the list as we account for ticket price inflation.

Obviously Joker wasn't destined to achieve the greatness of Nolan's Batman movies. But these inflated rankings show that Joker went just about as viral as the 1990s Batman movies, which were wildly popular during that decade.

With that said, this indicates a healthy future run for Joker, which was backed by good reviews and a controversial aura heading into opening weekend. We can probably expect that good fortune to continue, which may move Joker past some of these other DC films.
