Best RPGs for Android 2021

Role-playing Games are fantastic, story-driven experiences that compliment the mobile gaming experience well. Even though our mobile screens are small (5.7 inches by gaming standards), RPGs let us get lost in fantasy worlds for a bit. Some games, particularly those that were ported from PC, can take as long as 20 hours to complete. The Google Play Store's best RPGs are worth the price. There are mobile duds. Unfortunately, this is true for all game genres. To save you time and hassle, we've picked the best Android games. You can find more than RPGs in our roundup of top Android games. Adventure Quest 3D

Adventure Quest 3D originally launched for PC in 2016. However, the game has since been expanded to Mac and other mobile platforms thanks to positive feedback from the community and constant developer support. Adventure Quest 3D allows crossplay between iOS, Android, PC and Mac users. It is a classic MMO RPG that features many character classes, tons of weapons and armor, NPCs galore and enemies to defeat. Social aspects of the game are a key selling point. The game's user base is still strong, considering the time it has been around. Although the graphics can be a bit outdated and sometimes a bit silly at times, it doesn't take away from what the game offers. The look actually adds to the atmosphere, as Adventure Quest 3D isn't too serious with lots of jokes and funny dialogue. You can customize your character and have almost every cosmetic aspect of the game affect the appearance of your character. There are four classes that you start with, including Warrior, Rogue and Healer. However, you can unlock more classes as you progress. You can play it for free, so give it some time and see if it's a good fit.

Adventure Quest 3D Adventure Quest 3D has been a hit since its release. You can take down bosses and raid dungeons with your friends, while looking great. Google Play Store: Free with IAPs

AnimA

AnimA is a Diablo clone on Android, down to the fonts. But I'm here for this. This game is a tribute to Blizzard’s classic ARPGs. The game has a dark and foreboding environment, fun loot grinding, and lots of enemies to hack-andslash to death. Although this is a free-to play game that has microtransactions, it looks very similar to Path of Exile where you can still enjoy the game to your own pace. The developers let you play the game as it is, so the monetization doesn't seem too severe. If you are interested in ARPGs, AnimA is a good option. While you wait for Diablo Immortal, it's a fun time.

AnimA AnimA, an isometric ARPG, features a fun gameplay/loot loop and pretty visuals along with a dark storyline. This is a great option for Diablo players. You can also get it for free, with very few microtransactions. Google Play Store: Free with IAPs

Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space

Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time & Space was created by some of the most respected JRPG veterans. Another Eden was created by Masato Kato, a writer, and Yasunori Mitsuda as a composer. Both of them have contributed their talents to many legendary titles such as Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. It is unique because it was initially designed for mobile, not being a port. Another Eden is a JRPG that deals with time travel, as you would expect from the title and writer. Aldo and Feinne are a brother/sister pair from a small village whose lives are turned upside-down by the Beast King. Feinne, who is a rare and sought-after power, is abducted by the Beast King. Aldo must rescue her and all of the world. Side-scrolling is the main gameplay, but occasionally you can see 3D and engage in turn-based battles. The art is colorful and charming, with some very impressive boss designs. The game has over 60 chapters and is being continually updated. Another Eden was released in 2016 and the most recent update took place in April 2021. This is quite remarkable considering how many chapters there are. You will need to interact with Another Eden's gacha to be able to access the entire roster of characters. The free-to-play title also includes in-app purchase in the form Chronos Stones. These allow you to spin the wheel-of-fortune faster to obtain the characters you desire. Although you can earn Chronos stones by simply playing the game it takes longer to accumulate enough crystals to be able to gamble them away. Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space is a great mobile JRPG that's free to play. If you are looking for the next big game, it's worth a try!

Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time & Space The future, past, and present of the world are all in danger. You and your team must save them! This expansive mobile JRPG game lets you traverse time and space to save the planet. Get it free with IAPs from Google Play Store

Baldur's Gate II and Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn

The Baldur's Gate games are a must-have for D&D fans. They are based on the modified Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition rules. The original Baldur's Gate is credited for the 1998 computer RPG revival. These classic fantasy games are where you begin with the walls of your castle, but you are forced into a war-torn land under mysterious circumstances. Explore the world and face mythical creatures as well as actual ones, like rats. Baldur's Gate is a great game for those who enjoy a fun, old-fashioned adventure in a medieval world, clearing dungeons, slaying beasts, and creating potions to improve their character. This game is best played on a tablet due to the smaller text and menu controls. However, you may be able get by with a bigger flagship phone. After you're done with this enhanced version of Baldur's Gate II, Shadows of Amn is available. You won't regret it.

The Banner Saga

The Banner Saga, a Norse fantasy tactical RPG, is an amazing example of a Norse fantasy. It reminds me a lot about Fire Emblem. Although I was only able to play a small portion of the first game I heard nothing but positive things about the entire trilogy. Android users will only be able to download the first two games from the Play Store. These two games are worth your time. Beautiful scenery and excellent character design make the art style of this game truly stunning. It is a very intense game that requires a lot of planning in order to form your party, place your troops, and engage with your opponents. There are many characters in The Banner Saga to interact with and build relationships with. You have the power to make your own choices here. Both The Banner Saga 2 and The Banner Saga 2 are highly recommended. They are $10 each but they are well worth it if you like tactical RPGs.

Nightwar Battle Chasers

Battle Chasers Nightwar is an award-winning JRPG. It offers one of the best mobile RPG experiences in 2020, and that's because there are no in-app purchase or paid DLC. Hallelujah! This game has everything you need. It starts with an overworld filled with secret dungeons, bosses to defeat, and other surprises. Turn-based combat is inspired from all your favorite JRPGs and is a treat for casual fans like me. There's plenty to see and do in the vast, sprawling world. You can also upgrade your team's weapons and armors with deep crafting elements. A RPG can only be as good as its story, characters, and this game is based upon a graphic novel. We are given well-developed characters and a compelling tale. Gully, a young girl, is the main character in the story. She is on a quest for her father Aramus, a legendary hero who left behind powerful gauntlets, but then mysteriously disappeared. His daughter makes use of these gauntlets in her epic adventure. Gully is joined by Knowlan, a wise old mage who travels with Calibretto an ancient war golem that has developed his sentience as well as emotions. If you are a fan either of Battle Chasers, or just looking for a new JRPG, this game is worth checking out.

Chrono Trigger

Square Enix's legendary RPG Chrono Trigger was also developed. It is known for its amazing storytelling and stunning 16-bit graphics. While the gameplay and game have been preserved, some visuals and sounds were upgraded in the Android port. This will be a little confusing for those who aren't fans of the original game. It is not an emulated SNESROM, but a standalone mobile game. The game has touch controls by default, and Bluetooth controller support. This game can also be played offline, making it an ideal companion on long flights. This game is well worth the time and money if you have never played ChronoTrigger before. This game is full of adventure, mystery, and action, with an engaging story that is so satisfying.

ChronoTrigger ChronoTrigger is one the most memorable RPG stories ever. The game is optimized for mobile and not a port of the 16-bit version (for better or for worse). It also supports Bluetooth controllers. $10 on Google Play Store

Crashlands

Crashlands is a hilarious and quirky game by Butterscotch Shenanigans. Flux Dabes is a space trucker forced to crash-land in this mobile RPG. An alien jerk named Hewgodooko has forced Flux Dabes to crash-land on an alien planet. You must survive on this alien planet by building your own ship, fixing it, building bases, training wildlife, fighting the locals, and crafting weapons from their bodies. Eternium

Eternium claims to be the first fantasy RPG to truly support touch controls. It is an enjoyable RPG that feels great to play. The controls are intuitive and easy to use on mobile devices. Furthermore, the gameplay is engaging and fun. Your party is on a mission to stop Ragadam taking over the world. You will also be collecting loot, crafting weapons and weapons, as well as casting spells. You can summon various spells by drawing symbols on the screen. Eternium is a mobile-friendly RPG that's similar to Diablo and dungeon crawlers such as Diablo.

Eternium Eternium, a mobile RPG for free, claims it has no paywalls and is not pay-to win. This is a refreshing departure from the dungeon crawling genre, which too often follows the opposite approach. $10 on Google Play Store

Evoland 2

Evoland isn’t the most original of games. Evoland borrows elements from Final Fantasy, Diablo and Legend of Zelda to make a classic RPG adventure. While it may be a little sloppy, it is just as enjoyable as the originals. There's a good reason that it steals from the classics. It provides a meta-narrative which explores the evolution RPG video games. You start with monochrome graphics, and a 2-D character. You unlock new technologies as you advance, and you can finally reach the 3D/HD age. You will find references to movies and classic RPGs throughout your journey. So keep an eye out for these and other Easter eggs as you fight, loot, and level up. The sequel expanded the gameplay to include a wider look at video game history, and blending different genres into your adventure. Evoland 2 and its sequel Evoland 2 are great for RPG lovers, regardless of when they were created.

Evoland 2 Evoland 2 is a standout among the other games on this list. It has a self-aware humor and pays homage to some of the most beloved games and genres in game history. $6 on Google Play Store

Final Fantasy Square Enix has done an excellent job porting most of the Final Fantasy franchises to Android. They also developed a few mobile-specific free-to-play games. This game is essential for all RPG fans. Google Play Store: Get it for free!

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact was a completely unexpected creation. Genshin Impact is an action RPG that features great elemental combat and a fun party structure. To have the best battle outcomes, you will need to switch between characters. You can choose from a large roster. This takes cues straight from Breath Of The Wild, but has an "anime" twist. It is beautiful, filled with resources and monsters to hunt, and offers a lot of things to do. Genshin Impact's biggest problem is its monetization. Gacha mechanics are used to make it easier to buy more characters and new weapons. Even though the ending is a grindy affair, it's worth the effort to see the world and characters.

Genshin Impact Take control of the world with this action RPG. You will love the stunning art and character models as well as the ability to save between mobile and PC. Google Play Store: Free with IAPs

Icewind Dale

Icewind Dale is a classic RPG that deserves to be mentioned. Although it isn't as memorable as Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate, I have fond memories of Icewind Dae "back in time". It has been given new life thanks to Beamdog. Icewind Dale, like other Enhanced Edition port, has been updated to be more appealing to modern users. Although it is optimized for large tablets, it can still be played on large phones. It has many bug fixes and improvements over the original. Cross-platform multiplayer allows for epic adventures with friends. Icewind Dale is one of many RPGs that offer a lot for their money. Although it is a bit old, I think anyone who loves RPGs will enjoy it.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced edition Explore the harsh and dangerous Icewind Dale in search of a dark secret that lies beneath the Spine of the World. This RPG will keep you busy for hours. $10 on Google Play Store

Planescape: Tor

We have Planescape: Torment, a 1999 RPG. The game's story, soundtrack, characters, and setting are legendary. Beamdog has ported the game to Android and other modern platforms. Planescape: Torment's Return comes with many improvements to the core game like bug fixes, and so forth. The original is still amazing, with its excellent dialogue and character builds as well as the music (which also got a remaster). It is well worth your time and money to enjoy this masterpiece of RPG history, and to see the inspiration behind so many others. Planescape: Torment is my favorite RPG, although there have been other RPGs that I prefer. This is nostalgia for you.

Planescape Torment: Enhanced edition - Planescape Torment 1999 is a highly acclaimed RPG. It's now available for Android with many improvements. The game features superb writing, fantastic characters, and an outstanding soundtrack. This is in addition to the many hours of gameplay. $10 on Google Play Store

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

This mobile game is the complete KOTOR experience. If you are a Star Wars fan, then this is the right game for you. Although it's quite large at 2.4GB, you still get all the Jedi-saving, light-saber-swinging, force-wielding goodness of the console games. You can choose from nine different characters to create your party, travel to eight planets with the Ebon Hawk and learn how to use the Force. There are over 40 abilities! You can also build your own lightsaber. Knights of the Old Republic, the ultimate Star Wars RPG, is a great port. If you'd prefer to play this game with controllers, it even supports that. You are the Jedi's last hope and you will decide the fate for the galaxy. As you fight your way to becoming a hero, or succumbing to the Dark Side temptation,

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. KOTOR remains one of the most beloved Star Wars video games. Although the graphics may not have held up as well over time, few other games offer the same freedom of exploration in the Star Wars universe as KOTOR. $10 on Google Play Store

Titan Quest: Legendary Edition

All the great things about Titan Quest are now available in one package. The Legendary Edition of Titan Quest is a classic title that has been around for many years. Vampire: The Masquerade night Road

Android finally has a Vampire game: The Masquerade! Night Road is a text-based RPG that lets you make your own choices. The game is 650,000 words long, which is a bonus. Although it's a long game, I had a lot of fun playing it. You'll have a lot of fun roleplaying as a vampire. You can choose a clan to give your character a backstory. However, everyone will be able to see the same basic idea. Your mission is to deliver the vampire high-ups' messages at night. You have other issues like vampire hunters, and the dawn is a significant antagonist.

Vampire: The Masquerade night Road Survive the rising sun, persistent vampire hunters and a new take on text-based RPGs. This game features a lot of great writing and meaningful choices that have an impact on the game. No ads, $10 unlockable

Wayward Souls

Wayward Souls is an APRG-based game that combines a rogue-like element with APRG. Every level is randomly generated, with loot and enemy placements. Death is permanent. Combat can be fun, and it happens in real-time. If you aren't careful things can quickly get out of control. You will likely die multiple times. This game is not for the faint of heart. You must reach each level's exit. This can be very difficult or easy depending on how lucky you are and your skill. People have claimed that Wayward Souls has some Dark Souls design cues. However, it isn't quite Souls-like. Imagine an ARPG similar to Diablo, with a hint or Dark Souls added. Wayward Souls can be difficult, don't get it wrong. But you should try it out for yourself. It's very easy to use, has no microtransactions and is a great choice for those who love retro-style pixels and like a challenge.
