Melania Trump, former First Lady, refused to meet Republican Rep. Steve Scalise at White House after he was injured at a congressional baseball practice in 2017. She'd previously visited him in the hospital once, according to a new book. Insider obtained an early copy.

Stephanie Grisham was a former White House press secretary and also served as Melania Trump’s chief of staff. She wrote that Scalise's family visited the White House unscheduled shortly after Scalise was released from hospital.

Grisham stated that the Scalises were gathered in the Blue Room when the first lady asked her staff if she would like to go. She declined.

"Her reply was, 'No. I already said hello.'" Grisham wrote. This was the first lady referring to the time she and Donald Trump visited Scalise in the hospital while he was still recovering from the shooting. According to Grisham, Melania Trump's reaction became a joke in the East Wing.

"Whenever the first lady would say no to something, we would tell each other, "Well, she already said hello!" Grisham wrote.

"I'll Take Your Questions" by the former press secretary has been a huge success in recent weeks. It will be published on Tuesday.

Grisham was Melania Trump's chief-of-staff before she became the third Trump White House press secretary, after Sean Spicer (and Sarah Huckabee Sanders). The role she held was from July 2019 to April 2020. She received sharp criticism for not holding one press briefing during that time.

Former president attacked Grisham’s book as "bad" and "untrue" and said she "didn’t have the ability" to work in his government.

Trump stated that Stephanie didn't have the skills and it was evident from the beginning. She became bitter and angry after the breakup and was no longer able to be relied on or thought of. We felt she should solve her own problems. She is now paid by a radical left-leaning publisher to tell bad and false things.
