Fauci walks back comments about canceling Christmas after backlash

Dr. Anthony Fauci stated that the comments he made about whether it was safe to gather for Christmas were "misrepresented."
Fauci stated Sunday that it was "too early to tell" whether people will be able to gather for Christmas during the coronavirus pandemic.

"I will spend Christmas with my family. He said Monday that he encouraged everyone, especially those who have been vaccinated, to enjoy a normal, happy Christmas with their families.

FAUCI: "TOO SOON to TELL" IF YOU CAN GATHER TO CHRISTMAS

Is it OK if we can all gather for Christmas? Or is it too early to know? He was asked this Sunday.

"You'll know when... Fauci, who is the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden, said that it was too early to know. "We just need to focus on reducing those numbers and not trying to leap ahead by weeks, months or say what we're doing at a given time.

These comments provoked backlash from Republicans and Fauci critics on social media as well as in the press.

Scott Gottlieb, former Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, stated that "nothing is going to stop us getting together." "People should be cautious."

Fauci stated Monday that Biden's top physician was not talking about the possibility of gatherings, but the overall pandemic situation in December.
