Brentford won in extra time against West Ham with a 2-1 win. Wolves defeated Newcastle 2-1, and Leeds beat Watford 1-0.

You can check out my team of week, and make your own selections at the end of the article.
Goalkeeper: David Raya (Brentford)
It's hard enough to lose a game, but it was utterly devastating for West Ham to lose in the 94th minute. The performance of Brentford's David Raya between two sticks was one of the main reasons the Hammers lost.
Three outstanding saves by the Spaniard in a crucial period turned the match in Brentford's favor. This puts the Bees ahead of Tottenham, West Ham, and Arsenal.
Last week, I stated that Brentford's squad was so thin it would struggle to withstand the demands of Premier League. This result means that Brentford can probably survive any situation.
Did you know? Raya has participated in 101 of Brentford’s 105 league matches, including play-offs since joining the club prior to the 2019-20 season.
Defenders: Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea), Diego Llorente (Leeds United), Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea)
Azpilicueta - A VAR should take care of its business. We were made clear and obvious errors. Why then disallow Timo Werner’s goal for Chelsea that he headed in the second phase? It had nothing to do the previous phase. In the build-up to Werner's goal, I assumed that the referee would not allow play. However, VAR raised a red alert and he changed his mind.
It wasn't surprising that Thomas Tuchel, the Chelsea captain, and Azpilicueta went on the offensive. Azpilicueta did not allow the incident to linger on his mind for too long. He gave Werner the ball to help him score Chelsea's second goal.
Did you know? Azpilicueta has received two Premier League assists in seven games this season, matching his total from last season (in 26 appearances).
Llorente: Leeds needed this win. Diego Llorente's reaction was one of a striker, and it was sufficient to secure the points. But it shouldn’t have. VAR is again involved in a situation that it shouldn't have been involved in, and it still did the wrong thing.
What's the point of this system anyway? Watford's goal disallowed was wrong and almost certainly led to their manager Xisco Munoz being fired. Christian Kabasele from Watford was fouled in his box. The goal should have stood. Although I don't know the identity of the VAR operator, he should not be allowed to use it again.
Did you know? In Leeds' 1-0 victory over Watford, only Liam Cooper (64) completed a greater number of passes than Llorente (60).
Chalobah: Defenders with a real appetite for goals fascinate me. Trevoh Chalobah had a great game against Crystal Palace, but his goal against Southampton was especially interesting.
His instinctive movement away from the ball during the set-piece was evident. He knew precisely where the ball would fall. While most defenders are skilled at attacking the ball in the air, few can read the ball's likely location to ensure a quick finish. Chalobah does. Below, you can read why I believe players should continue to lead the ball in the Crooks.
Did you know? Chalobah scored against Crystal Palace and Southampton with his two only Premier League shots.
Midfielders: Andros Townsend (Everton), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham), Bernardo Silva (Manchester City), Son Heung-min (Tottenham)
Townsend: It looks like Andros Townsend has been enjoying football again. It's not clear if it's the Merseyside air, but he should keep doing it.
He has been through some difficult times in his career at Spurs, Crystal Palace and Everton. His goal against Manchester United was outstanding. His precision touch with his right foot was equalled only by his first touch with his left boot's outside. David de Gea was grounded.
Did you know? Townsend scored five goals this season in all competitions for Everton, three more than in his previous two seasons with Crystal Palace (2 in 60 games).
Hojbjerg - He wasn't one of my favourite players as a Southampton player, but I have to say that he has become a friend since joining Spurs. He is one of few Tottenham players who has some grit to his game.
He is also trustworthy in battle, and the match against Aston Villa was a good example of that. Hojbjerg's goal taking was what was most impressive. He did it with consummate composure, and in a way that suggested Tottenham and their manager were not under any pressure - which we know is not true.
Did you know? Hojbjerg, who scored with his one shot, completed more passes (59), and won possession more often (10) than any other Spurs players against Aston Villa.
Silva: Although I don't usually choose Bernardo Silva over Kevin de Bruyne, I felt the need to. Silva was fantastic throughout the match against Liverpool, while De Bruyne was not for long.
Silva was also booked for a genuine miss-timed tackle, but it wasn't calculated nor cynical. James Milner's tackle on Silva in the final match was neither cynical nor calculated. Milner should have been given a second yellow, but he didn't. Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's boss, suggested that he was not surprised by the referees' decision. After all, it was Anfield. It's true, it used to happen in mine day and it should stop.
Did you know? Silva made 26 more passes in Liverpool's Liverpool half than any other Manchester City player (26).
Son: These past few weeks have been difficult for Spurs, and their manager Nuno Espirito Sante. The team and the manager fought back against a very dangerous Aston Villa team in a difficult fixture. Harry Kane looked more like himself. However, Son Heung-min provided two crucial assists for Lucas Moura and Hojbjerg. His goal was credited to Villa defender Matt Targett. It's hard to understand why. Targett doesn’t want to own a goal, and Moura desperately wants one. Good news: At least temporarily, some heat has been removed from the Tottenham Hotspur pressure cooker.
Did you know? Son Heung-min broke a streak of nine Premier League games with no assists, setting up Tottenham’s first goal against Aston Villa
Forwards: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolves), Phil Foden (Manchester City)
Salah: It's official. Mohamed Salah has returned to his best, being the player that I first saw at Anfield four year ago. Regular readers will recall that I had issues with Salah in the past when I believed he was seeking the golden boot award from the moment the first game was played. But not anymore. He was selfless, showed incredible finishing and pace against Manchester City. His goal for Sadio Mane was a stunning one, and his own was simply breathtaking in such circumstances. Mo, it's great to have you back.
Did you know? Did you know that Salah scored seven goals in a row in all competitions? This equals his highest ever scoring run with Liverpool.
Hwang: It appears that Wolves have found a winner to join Raul Jimenez. Both men played in a dominant fashion against Newcastle. Newcastle couldn't finish a fish supper. Although Jeff Hendrick did score a stunning win for the Magpies in the third game, it's clear that you won't be able to take the simple chances to win matches.
Hwang won two races and was rewarded with both the Jimenez bang-in form and Hwang's victory. A fit Jimenez in the side makes wolves look better, but Hwang's ability and speed to finish could be a significant asset.
Did you know? Hwang Heechan was the Wolves' first player to score a brace in a Premier League match since Diogo Jota against Norwich in February 2020.
Foden: He missed two golden opportunities in the first half. I'm convinced that a Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus would have chosen one of them. Pep Guardiola doesn't always get the best from Phil Foden when he asks him to lead the attack.
You can put him on the left side of a three-man attack, and you will have a completely new player. He showed that he can finish and pick out better players to score goals with his goal against Liverpool. Foden scored an identical goal the last time I saw him play at Anfield. He seems to enjoy the big occasions.
Did you know? Foden, 21y 128d, is the youngest player to score in three Premier League matches against Liverpool since Romelu Lukaku in November 2013 (20y 194d).

The Crooks of the Matter
Terry Butcher, former England captain, recently suggested that the idea of heading the ball should be eliminated completely. I was somewhat taken aback at his comments, especially since the ex-Ipswich centreback was quite good at it.
Research showed that pro footballers are more likely to develop dementia or Alzheimer's if they continue to head the ball. This is a worrying, if not surprising, discovery. It is not intended to be repeatedly blasted against any object, let alone one moving at high speed. Why do I disagree?
It is unfair to compare professional footballers with the general public. It would be more fair to compare football players with those who compete in other sports, such as boxing or rugby.
The intoxicating dynamics of football make it the most popular sport on the planet. It will lose its appeal if you change it. What is the professional game to do in these situations? I'll leave it up to modern-day players. Let them consider the risks and let them make their own decisions. We made our own choices.
