Texas police say 'armed citizen' shot robbers at fast-food chicken chain, killing 1 suspect, wounding second

Texas authorities claim that an armed customer intervened in the attempted robbery at a fast food restaurant serving fried chicken. One gunman was killed and a second gunfire victim was taken to the hospital.
Port Arthur police responded to an aggravated burglary at Churchs Chicken at 1849 Jefferson Drive around 8:45 pm Friday. Two suspects, armed with handguns, attempted to rob the restaurant. However, a citizen armed intervened and a shootout ensued.

According to a Port Arthur Police Department press release, "Several shots were fired and both of the suspects were struck." Police officers later located the suspects who fled the scene.

Police said that one of the suspects was later declared dead at a local hospital. KFDM reported that the second suspect was found at Normandy Apartments and was taken to the emergency department for treatment.

The citizen with an armed weapon remained on the scene and was then questioned by detectives before being released. Port Arthur Polices Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the incident. The incident occurred just one day after another armed robbery at Jack in the Box in the town. Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso stated to KFDM that it wasn't immediately clear if the two suspects were the same.
