Brooklyn federal jail guard who repeatedly raped inmate begs for no-prison sentence

Brooklyn Federal Jail Guard convicted of repeatedly violating an inmate pleaded with a judge for a no-prison sentence so he could live a different life behind bars.
Carlos Martinez' lawyer wrote that he failed to exercise sound judgment, and made the worst decision in his life. He also stated that Carlos Martinez has since expressed regret at his actions toward the detainee.

Martinez spent five months directing the inmate Maria to come to his Metropolitan Detention Center office to clean. But when she arrived, he began to sexually assault her.

Martinez would monitor the surveillance cameras in his office while he raped Maria to ensure that nobody caught him.

Brooklyn federal prosecutors requested that Edward Korman, the judge in this case, sentence Martinez to more 20 years imprisonment. He had asked the judge previously to sentence Martinez to life imprisonment.

Martinez destroyed my soul and left a mark on my body that will never be erased, Maria wrote in a letter to the judge. God, forgive him, because I won't be able to do that, and I have already said before that I only want justice. Let him cry in prison, even though I am crying in bed.

Martinez spent four years in prison before his trial. He is now awaiting sentencing. Martinez is currently being held in Essex County Jail.

Maria and Eugenio Perez (a lieutenant at MDC) sued Martinez in 2018 over sexual assaults.

Perez, along with three other prisoners, was also convicted of 2018 sexual assaulting Maria. He was sentenced to 25-years in prison.

Maria thought about hitting Martinez over the head with her mop, which she used to clean the house.

Martinez grabbed her hand and tried to stop her rape another time.

Martinez asked her what time it would take to hit a lieutenant.

In addition, the lawsuit alleges that the indiscreet lieutenant raped another prisoner in 1994, 21-years before he attacked Maria.

Martinez faces justice in this case. A Manhattan Federal Jail guard will be on trial for making a woman sex with him in return for her not getting in trouble for smuggling drugs to the jail.

Robert Adams, a Metropolitan Correctional Center guard in Lower Manhattan, found the woman trafficking in contraband in July 2019. He demanded that the woman meet him at a nearby restaurant and then drove her to a hotel where they had sex.
