Marvel’s Eternals Spot Reveals the MCU’s First Big Screen Gay Couple

The Eternals have the opportunity to shine now that semi-grounded heroes such as Black Widow and Shang-Chi have been given their own films. Director Chlo Zhao will make their grand debut for the new group of cosmic weirdos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe within a month. That means it's time to start the commercials. Surprisingly the most important takeaway from the spot is that it features footage of the first queer couple appearing in the MCU films. This was something that seemed impossible for the megafranchise at 13 years old, until Tessa Thompson would return for another Thor movie.

The majority of footage in the promo are familiar, such as Lia McHughs Sprite that enchants people with fireworks. There are some new nuggets that you should invest in, like the first appearance of Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry, husband. They have a child together! We are amazed at how far we have come from crossing our queer fingers in hopes that every year a Marvel movie will give us our corporate approved queer rep. Kit Harrington is still there as Dane Whitman, who will eventually become Black Knight. But Marvels really hope you won't think about that.

After a long and unwise wait, the Eternals are now ready to fight for the planet. Earth is at risk of being wiped out once more, thanks to the massive population increase after Avengers: Endgame. It's a rush to get everyone back together to stop the Deviants, save the world, and this is not the first Marvel movie to do it. This trailer is exactly how Marvel Studios markets its movies. The trailer doesn't show the same melancholy and wonder as the previous one, but it does feature some flashy action like the team fighting Deviant beasts, or the volcano-fighting team. We have no idea what it is about but we will find out when Eternals arrives exclusively in theaters on November 5.
