George Floyd Statue in Union Square Vandalized Day After it's Unveiled

Within 48 hours of its emotional unveiling, the statue of George Floyd in Union Square was vandalized by paint.
The statue, one of three -- Breonna Taylor, John Lewis -- was covered in what appears to have been grey paint. It's not known who did it, but it is believed to have occurred Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Shannan Ferry posted a photo showing the extent of the damage.

Terrence Floyd, Floyd's brother was present at Friday's ceremony to unveil the statue. The Union Square installation is called #SeeInjustice and each piece stands 6 feet tall. These pieces are made of layers of African mahogany plywood, then painted with bronze paint.

The killing of Floyd by Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, was what launched the civil justice movement in the United States. For the murder, Chauvin was sentenced at 22.5 years prison.

As of the writing of this article, no arrests have been made in connection with vandalism.
